I propose to take Questions Nos. 339 and 340 together.

The provision of library services including buildings is primarily a matter for local authorities in their capacity as library authorities, under the Local Government Act 2001. Accordingly, the upgrade and refurbishment to the Frank O’Connor Library, Mayfield, Cork City, is a matter for Cork City Council in the first instance.

Under the Libraries Capital Programme 2023-2027, my department is investing €22.6m in 11 library infrastructure projects and a further €2.6m in 12 next-generation mobile libraries. However, I can confirm that no capital funding has been provided by my department to Cork City Council under the Libraries Capital Programme 2023 - 2027 or any other scheme funded by my department for the refurbishment of Mayfield Library over the period 2021 – 2025.

There may be future calls under the Libraries Capital Programme and my department will be in contact with local authorities in that regard in due course.

Question No. 340 answered with Question No. 339.
