263. Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage for an update of the expansion of the ready to build scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4887/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Ready to Build Scheme - funded by the Croí Cónaithe Towns Fund - is designed to address vacancy, and it was initially launched in September 2022. Under the Scheme, local authorities can make vacant, serviced sites in towns and villages available to potential individual purchasers to build a home.
The new housing plan, Delivering Homes, Supporting Communities, commits to expanding the current Ready to Build Scheme whereby local authorities will service sites in, and close to, towns and villages to enable construction of clusters of homes at an appropriate scale. A mix of private, social and affordable homes can be delivered on the same site, creating new cost-effective, mixed tenure communities.
A further objective of the development of such a scheme would be to support Small and Medium Enterprise homebuilders who have land appropriately located but are constrained by financing or infrastructure considerations.
My Department is currently working on advancing and developing this enhanced scheme, with the operational details to be confirmed in due course.
