Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Health the governance, clinical oversight, and reporting mechanisms that will be in place to monitor quality, safety, and outcomes for children treated under the new outsourcing framework for paediatric scoliosis and spina bifida surgery; and if she will confirm the way performance and patient outcomes will be reported to the HSE and her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraInternational outsourcing is an additional pathway for complex procedures which has supported 19 patients to have surgery abroad since 2024.
A tender process for additional international outsourcing pathways is complete and CHI is engaging with two new hospitals, one in Europe and one in the USA, to increase capacity for complex spinal procedures.
As this is an operational matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
