The 2019 GMS GP Agreement provided, amongst other things, for the establishment of a working group with a view to updating and consolidating existing circulars pertaining to GMS succession arrangements and the filling of vacant GMS panels. The working group was established and significant progress made in reviewing GMS succession arrangements and drafting a consolidated circular on succession arrangements. The provision of succession planning, as it relates to GP capacity, is being considered further as part of the Strategic Review of General Practice which is currently underway and to be completed this year.

In regard to the number of GPs aged 60 and over recorded by the HSE Primary Care Reimbursement Service, I have asked the HSE to reply to the Deputy directly on this matter as soon as possible.
