1267. Deputy Mairéad Farrell asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science for an updated version of the table on page 26 of the National Student Accommodation Strategy (2017), that details the actual supply and demand figures for purpose-built student accommodation bedspaces, broken down by cities, in the years 2017, 2019 and 2024; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The information requested by the Deputy is not available in the Department. As of February 2024, a total of 14,599 purpose-built student bed spaces have been delivered since 2017, bringing the national stock to approx 49,000 beds. The National Student Accommodation Strategy (2026- 2035) will be published in the coming weeks

There are over 49,200 purpose-built student accommodation beds nationally. About two-thirds in private ownership, while our higher education institutions provide more than 15,600 beds.

The table below illustrates the total inventory of student beds at the end of 2025.
