As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and Exchequer funding in relation to the Roads programme and the public transport programme. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure.

There are ongoing discussions regarding the potential Cork Southern Distributor Road, and my officials are examining the issue, including with the NTA.

On this basis, I have referred the Deputy's specific question to the NTA for more information. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.

I will discuss the status and progression of this potential project with Cork City Council and the NTA in due course.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Orders.
