The department has received an application for additional accommodation and a request for a new school building on a greenfield site from the school referred to by the Deputy. This application is being considered in the context of the priorities set out in the recently published NDP Sectoral Investment Plan for the Education and Youth Sectors for the period 2026-2030.
While new modular accommodation was delivered for the school, the Department led Energy and Condition Survey of the school estate, which will be finalised later in 2026, will provide an additional evidence base for assessing priorities and will give a good picture of the nature of accommodation at all schools including Colaiste Mhuire. The department is engaging directly with the patron regarding how best to address the school community’s longer-term requirements.
The Deputy may be aware that €82 million in capital funding has been provided to schools in North Tipperary since 2020. This funding has supported the upgrading of 37 schools either through provision of a new school building, a large-scale extension or provision of modular accommodation.
