Ceisteanna (330)

Ken O'Flynn

Ceist:

330. Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for Health the way in which the non-funding of pharmacist-prepared blister packs aligns with national home-care policy objectives that support independent living for people with disabilities and older persons; and whether her Department accepts that medication compliance supports form an integral part of safe home-based care. Internationally, including from the National Health Service in the UK, the literature and guidance is that blister packs should be a last resort, with patients being supported by many other interventions before being recommended a blister pack. Notwithstanding this, I recognise that for certain patients, using them can be helpful, and they rely heavily on these products. My Department is considering the matter of blister packs further at this time, as a matter of priority.
