Deputy Barry Heneghan asked the Minister for Health the current status of the assessment and decision making process (details supplied) in the treatment of young children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy; the timeline for completion of the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics review and subsequent HSE reimbursement decision; the steps being taken to ensure that children with progressive and life limiting conditions can access approved medicines without undue delay; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and medical devices; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
