I would like to thank the Deputy for his question.
My priority as Minister for Defence is to ensure that the operational capability of the Army, Air Corps and Naval Service is maintained and developed. This is to enable the Defence Forces to carry out the roles assigned by Government. The Strategic Framework 2026 comprises 123 actions that will be completed during this year, 2026, to underpin the transformation of the Defence Forces.
In addition to the wide range of initiatives that will positively impact all members of the Defence Forces, key actions identified in the Strategic Framework focus on the regeneration and growth of the Naval Service and the Air Crops specifically.
These include:
• Progression of the Super Medium Helicopter project.
• Commencement of the Replacement Pilot Trainer Aircraft project.
• Build Phase of H145 Light Utility Helicopters, with phased delivery in 2027 and 2028.
• Naval Service P50 Primary Armament refurbishment and modernisation.
• Naval Service X and S band radar systems completed.
• Continuous delivery of Naval Service Reserve Motor Launches on phased basis.
• Naval Service Diving Unit Equipment modernisation.
My Department's Infrastructure Development Plan also includes considerable refurbishment works for both the Naval Base at Haulbowline and Casement Aerodrome.
Crucially, I expect to receive the Naval Service Regeneration and Growth Plan this quarter, with the Air Corps plan to follow later in the year. My Department and the Defence Forces will work to ensure that delivery of the actions in both regeneration plans are realised in the shortest timeframe possible.
