Amharc ar fhreagraThe Road Safety Authority (RSA) has statutory responsibility for the National Car Testing (NCT) service under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006.
The RSA has contracted a third-party service provider to run the NCT service on its behalf with the contract managed and overseen by the RSA's customer operations directorate. The contract includes a service level agreement wait time target of 12 days for an NCT.
As of the week ending 22 February 2026, the current national average wait time for an NCT is at 16.28 days. This increase is in line with normal seasonal trends, resulting from the high number of vehicles registered at the beginning of each year.
