621. Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport to provide an update on the planned redevelopment of the National Concert Hall. [15116/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe redevelopment of the National Concert Hall is being progressed under the National Cultural Institution (NCI) Investment Programme as set out in my Department’s NDP Sectoral Investment Plan. All of the projects under this programme are progressing in line with the Infrastructure Guidelines.
The project is currently progressing in two distinct phases:
• Phase 1: at the Pathology Block, a separate structure facing Hatch Street, which will become NCH Discover, a new learning and participation centre, and:
• Phase 2: the Main project, which will encompass the remainder of the National Concert Hall works at the Earlsfort Terrace campus.
The development of this project is split between the 'Implementation and Post Completion Review and Benefits Realisation' phase for NCH Discover, and 'Pre-tender - Project Design, Planning and Procurement Strategy' phase for the Main project.
On 5 January, construction of the centre commenced on the Discover Centre and substantive completion is expected in early 2027. A defects period, commission and re-occupation will precede the opening. This new Centre will provide expanded opportunities for music engagement, learning and participation, creativity and well-being for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Progression on the main project is on-going and the next step in this project is the development of a Detailed Business Case before consideration can be given to going to tender for construction.
