10. Deputy Sorca Clarke asked the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment the proportion of Ireland’s climate finance that is delivered in the form of grants versus loans [15401/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraIreland’s international climate finance is provided by four funding Departments, namely the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Finance. All of Ireland's international climate finance is grants-based at point of distribution.
My Department's climate finance prioritises funding to the multilateral climate funds, specifically the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Fund (GEF), in addition to multi-doner pooled funds, such as the NDC Partnership, and multilateral bodies, such as the UNFCCC and UNEP.
Climate finance remains central to Ireland’s international climate diplomacy. At COP26, the Taoiseach set a target of providing at least €225 million in international climate finance to developing countries annually, by 2025. This is more than double what was provided in 2020. All indications show that this target was reached in 2025.
