Affordability and the chance to own a home is at the heart of Government’s housing policy, as embodied within the new housing plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities. The plan reinforces and expands the range of existing measures being implemented by Government to tackle the issues of supply and affordability, thereby supporting the increased provision of new homes to purchase and rent.

The First Home Scheme (FHS), launched July 2022, provides finance to help first time buyers, self-builders or those making a fresh start to bridge the gap between a deposit and mortgage, and the price of a new home, within regional price ceilings. The Scheme is overseen and managed by the First Home Scheme Ireland Designated Activity Company (DAC), on behalf of the shareholders - the State and participating mortgage lenders.

The First Home Scheme supports the purchase of modular homes where they are permanent/immovable structures, in compliance with current building standards and have a guaranteed lifespan of at least 75 years. The applicant must also meet the First Home Scheme applicant eligibility criteria which can be found here: www.firsthomescheme.ie/about-the-scheme/eligibility/

Please be advised, the Help to Buy incentive is an initiative of Revenue and the Department of Finance, and does not come under the remit of my Department. Revenue and the Department of Finance should be contacted in relation to that scheme’s operation. Revenue can be contacted at the following link: www.revenue.ie/en/contact-us/index.aspx
