Deputy Martin Kenny asked the Minister for Health if she is satisfied that food imported into Ireland by food processing companies and used in processed foods is correctly labelled with country of origin in relation to the ingredients of such products; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is a statutory body, independent in the exercise of its functions, which was established under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act 1998. The FSAI has overall responsibility for the enforcement of food law in Ireland; therefore, as this is an operational matter, I have asked the FSAI to reply directly to the Deputy.
