Uisce Éireann (UÉ), as the national water utility, has statutory responsibility for the planning, delivery, and operation of all water services at national, regional, and local levels. The scope, prioritisation, and progression of individual wastewater projects are determined by UÉ and approved through its Board and internal governance structures.

Under my Department’s Multi-annual Rural Water Programme, funding has been approved for a single combined wastewater project for Craughwell and Clarinbridge in County Galway. The total approved funding for the project is €27.3 million, of which €2.6 million is to be provided by Galway County Council in co-funding, in accordance with the criteria under which the funding was applied for.

Responsibility for delivering this project now rests with Galway County Council, working with Uisce Éireann, in line with the approved funding.
