My Department operates two programmes that can support Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) to progress large-scale conversion projects that bring vacant offices or commercial buildings into residential social housing, namely the Capital Advance Loan Facility (CALF) and the Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS).

Drawing on these funding programme, my Department's expanded Buy and Renew Scheme supports AHBs or contractors working on their behalf to, among other things, bring vacant and derelict properties that cannot be easily undertaken or addressed by others back into productive use and repurpose vacant commercial properties as new social housing. Funding is available on a project-by-project basis.
