Ceisteanna (776)

Seán Canney

Ceist:

776. Deputy Seán Canney asked the Minister for Health if she will consider making versatis patches available to a wider cohort of patients as some patients, including a person (details supplied) are unable to sleep for prolonged periods, and are forced to sleep in a sitting position, due to nerve pain; if she will recognise that for some patients this is the only relief available for them and they need to be reimbursed due to the high cost of the medication; if she will recognise that the current one-size-fits-all approach is leaving many patients in great pain as a result of a poor bureaucratic system; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and medical devices; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
