551. Deputy James Geoghegan asked the Minister for Education and Youth the total spending on programmes targeting children with special education needs in 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017, 2023 and 2025; the amount of this which is the provision of extra teachers as distinct from other supports; and if she will make a statement on the matter. This government is fully committed to supporting students with special educational needs to fulfil their full potential and the Programme for Government makes a number of commitments to deliver on this objective.

The information requested by the Deputy is currently being prepared and the available information will be forwarded to the Deputy's office as soon as it is compiled.

My department and the NCSE are committed to delivering an education system that is of the highest quality and where every child and young person feels valued and is actively supported and nurtured to achieve their full potential.
