The Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation typically opens for applications in January each year. The next funding call will therefore issue in January 2027.
Every year since 2013, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality has provided Local Authorities with the opportunity to apply for funding to support new and existing play and recreation facilities for children and young people through the Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation.
One of the consistent criteria under this scheme is that the playground must be accessible and inclusive to all children including those with additional needs.
The 2026 Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation opened for applications on the 19th of January and closed for applications on the 12th of February.
Following evaluation of applications, the 30 Local Authorities who applied were successful. The funding was announced on the 22nd of April 2026.
