Ceisteanna (387)

Paul Lawless

Ceist:

387. Deputy Paul Lawless asked the Minister for Transport if he is aware of safety concerns raised by rail passengers regarding the short notice given for train departures from distant platforms, including platforms seven and eight, where passengers are often given as little as ten minutes to board for the Dublin to Westport train; the extent to which this results in passengers running through stations, creating safety risks, particularly for older people and those with mobility difficulties; whether Irish Rail has been instructed to review boarding times and platform allocation practices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister of State, I have responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.

The query raised by the Deputy is an operational matter for Iarnród Éireann. I have, therefore, referred the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Orders.
