Deputy Colm Burke asked the Minister for Social Protection to strongly consider the appeal of a person (details supplied) against a determination of overpayment, noting the extenuating circumstances of the illness of a close family member; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe person concerned submitted a request for an appeal that was received by the Social Welfare Appeals Office (SWAO) on the 13th of March 2026, where it was registered and sent to the relevant scheme area for review. The decision was upheld by the scheme area and the appeal was returned to the SWAO on the 16th of April 2026.
I am advised by the SWAO that the appeal is currently assigned to an Appeals Officer and is under consideration.
The person concerned will be notified of the Appeals Officer’s decision in the coming days.
