Following the postponement of my trade mission to Canada on 13 -14 April, I spoke to Prime Minister Carney by phone on Tuesday 14 April.

I conveyed my apologies to him that the planned trade mission was postponed. Prime Minister Carney expressed his understanding, and we both agreed that the opportunities developed in preparation for the mission should be followed up.

We discussed bilateral relations including the increasing strength of our economic ties, Ireland’s upcoming EU Presidency, and global issues including the situation in the middle east.

Prime Minister Carney expressed his intention to visit Ireland in June of this year. I look forward to welcoming the Prime Minister to Ireland, which will be a valuable opportunity to further strengthen the close ties between our two countries.
