To support the 2026 EU presidency, the department has 6 staff seconded to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade working in the Permanent Representative to the EU in Brussels and 4 staff assigned to the EU Presidency Programme Office, Dublin.

In addition, the number of temporary additional hires for the purposes of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026 is as follows:
