The vacancy rate for those posts across each of the six HSE Health Regions, noting the acknowledgement in her Department's December 2025 workforce paper of a current shortage of both professions across the public and private sectors
My Department is currently awaiting information on the vacancy rate for posts across each of the six HSE Health Regions from the HSE and this will be collated and a reply issued directly to you as soon as possible.
The additional student places that have been created to address this shortage:
• There were 145 year 1 students enrolled in radiography courses in the 2024 academic year (latest HEA figures available) with 50 additional places provided in 2025 and a further 30 additional places expected in 2026.
• There were 40 year 1 students enrolled in radiation therapy courses in the 2024 academic year (latest HEA figures available) with 3 additional places provided in 2025 and a further 20 additional places expected in 2026.
