My department has a number of schemes under the Rural Development Investment Programme (RDIP) to support outdoor recreation, town centre renewal and rural infrastructure which are available to communities in Co. Tipperary.
The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) is funded by my department as part of the Rural Development Investment Programme and supports the development and enhancement of outdoor recreational infrastructure. This includes walking trails, cycleways, blue ways, mountain access routes and open water facilities at rivers, lakes and beaches. Since 2021, funding of over €102 million has been approved for over 1,300 outdoor amenities across the country. This includes €4.6 million for 66 projects in Co Tipperary.
The Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) supports the revitalisation of rural towns and villages across Ireland. While it primarily targets funding at areas with populations of less than 10,000 people, applications for towns with populations of up to 15,000 people are also accepted where the project is of a high quality, displays good value for money and has the potential to significantly benefit the town. Since 2021, over €132 million has been allocated to over 749 projects across Ireland, including €6.58 million in Co. Tipperary.
Also administered by my department is the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF), which is a major programme which seeks to support large-scale, ambitious projects that can achieve sustainable economic and social development in rural area. The focus of the Fund is on rural towns and villages with a population of less than 10,000 people and located outside of the Dublin Metropolitan area. Since 2021, the RRDF has allocated over €431 million for 134 projects across Ireland, of which, almost €47 million has been allocated to 9 projects located across Co. Tipperary.
The table below provides a breakdown of allocations provided for each of these schemes in the years 2021 to 2025. Details of individual projects funded under these schemes is available on the Department’s website.
I am committed to ensuring that my Department will continue to support high quality and transformational projects across rural Ireland in line with the objectives of Our Rural Future and the Town Centre First policy.
