The Central Statistics Office (CSO), as the national statistical agency, is responsible for the compilation and publication of crime statistics.

The CSO produces these statistics using data recorded by An Garda Síochána on the PULSE system and publishes regular releases on recorded crime. The most recent release includes recorded crime up to the end of 2025.

An Garda Síochána has advised that crime statistics for a wide range of incident types, including “Discharging a Firearm” and “Possession of a Firearm”, are published annually on the CSO website and are available at the following link: https://data.cso.ie/table/CJA01.

It is not possible to provide a statistical breakdown of the source of the firearms involved as data is not collated in this way.[]
