The main support available to students is the statutory based Student Grant Scheme which is administered by SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland). Under the terms of the Student Grant Scheme, grant assistance is awarded to students attending an approved course in an approved institution who meet the prescribed conditions of funding, including those relating to nationality, residency, previous academic attainment and means. The decision on eligibility for a student grant is a matter, in the first instance, for the awarding authority, SUSI to determine.
SUSI has received the application of the student referred to by the Deputy. In a letter to the applicant dated 20 May 2026, SUSI requested additional documentation including a Revenue Indicative Calculation and Financial accounts. SUSI received the supporting documents on 28 May 2026, and these are queued for review by SUSI’s assessment team. SUSI received in excess of 110,000 applications for the 2025/26 academic year and similar is expected for the 2026/27 academic year. The student will be informed of any decision on their application in due course.
