At present, my Department does not seek to identify whether a Parliamentary Question is generated by artificial intelligence and is not aware of any means to clearly identify such a question. All questions relating to policy matters for which I have official responsibility are answered in line with Oireachtas rules and guidance. Any restrictions or rules governing the use of artificial intelligence in tabling Parliamentary Questions is a matter for the Oireachtas itself to determine.

The administrative work involved in answering Parliamentary Questions is spread across the whole Department given the broad policy areas covered and volume of questions tabled and answered on a weekly basis.

Information is not currently available to distinguish the cost to my Department of answering Parliamentary Questions from the overall administrative costs associated with the operation of the Department more generally.
