439. Deputy Shane Moynihan asked the Minister for Education and Youth the current status of the transfer of the lands at Magee Barracks, County Kildare to her Department; the expected timeline for its completion; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [45022/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe sale of an 8-acre site at Magee Barracks in Kildare Town was completed on 12 March 2024. The contract was closed conditional on post-closing obligations relating to access. These obligations will be fulfilled prior to the opening of the school.
The site was acquired to support the replacement and expansion of the existing Curragh Community College and to meet the significant post-primary demographic growth projected for the Kildare South region in the coming years.
The 8-acre site is adjacent to two existing primary schools. The overall land holding will be developed as an education campus consisting of the two primary schools and a new post-primary school for more than 1,000 pupils, together with four Special Educational Needs (SEN) units.
