It was announced in September 2021 that, under Housing for All, Long Term Leasing (LTL) would cease on 31 December 2025. From this date no further new LTL units will be brought into LTL schemes. Those units in operation under LTL schemes at 31 December 2025 will continue in payment until the term of their lease agreement expires.

The Government is focused on the delivery of new build social homes and, accordingly, housing targets are primarily focused on new build delivery. The LTL scheme has been actively phased out through reduced targets since 2022, and ended on 31 December 2025.

In 2025 a total of 150 LTL units were delivered by local authorities.

The average monthly payment for these 150 units is €1,340.35. The total annual cost for all 150 units is €2,412,624.
