The Labour Employer Economic Forum (LEEF) is made up of representatives from the government, employers and trade unions and provides for tripartite dialogue on economic and employment issues as they affect the labour market.

I chaired the most recent plenary meeting of the LEEF on 17 April.

The meeting received a presentation on energy security and affordability challenges, international energy developments, the response put in place by the Government to date, as well as broader economic developments and outlook.

It discussed the pressures that households and businesses have come under as a result of geopolitical developments impact energy costs, and the importance of protecting jobs, funding services, boosting our resilience, and maintaining our competitiveness, while protecting the vulnerable.

In light of recent events, the meeting reaffirmed the importance of dialogue taking place with established representative groups such as employer organisations and trade unions and through Forums such as the LEEF.

It was agreed that an intensive process of dialogue under LEEF would take place on current challenges to energy security and affordability, and challenges to broader economic resilience. That has been underway in recent weeks.

It also agreed that Government would meet again with LEEF members and the next meeting of the LEEF plenary is scheduled for 8th July.
