The ICE2EV capped pilot scheme will launch on July 1st and provides support towards the replacement of an eligible internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle with a new electric vehicle, subject to the scheme’s strictly governed application requirements, eligibility criteria and available funding. The first come, first served pilot scheme will be administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
Participating dealers play an important role in supporting customers through the application process, including applying the relevant grants. In this context, it is expected that any offers made by dealers to customers should be clearly communicated as being subject to eligibility under the scheme and the availability of funding, which is allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Customers should be made aware that approval of scrappage funding is not automatic and that full eligibility must be confirmed, and funding secured, before the support can be applied. SEAI provides guidance to participating dealers to ensure that the scheme is administered transparently and in line with its terms and conditions.
The operation of the scheme will be monitored closely, and any matters arising in relation to its implementation will be considered as part of the ongoing review of this pilot initiative.
