The Pyrite Remediation Scheme is active across nine local authority areas in Ireland. To be eligible for the Scheme, the affected dwelling must be located within the administrative boundaries of one of these specific councils.

The Scheme does not formally recognise or approve entire housing estates or geographical areas for the Pyrite Remediation Scheme. Instead, the Scheme is strictly application-based and assessed on a property-by-property basis.

Individual homeowners must apply independently and satisfy specific criteria to qualify, as set out on the Pyrite Resolution Board website at www.pyriteboard.ie.

In February of this year the government approved a significant expansion of the damage eligibility criteria to ensure that additional homes within these affected areas can be remediated as the Scheme enters its final phase.

The Scheme which has been in operation since 2013 and has remediated almost 3,000 homes to date, is now winding down and has an application closing date of 30 November 2026. The works programme is scheduled to continue up to the end of 2029 when it is expected that all dwellings that have been significantly damaged as a result of pyritic heave will be remediated.
