A review of Dáil and European Parliament constituencies was undertaken by an independent Constituency Commission following the publication by the Central Statistics Office of the preliminary results in respect of Census 2016. The Constituency Commission reported with its recommendations on 27 June 2017. Following a decision by the European Council on 28 June 2018 on the number of representatives in the European Parliament to be elected in each Member State for the 2019 - 2024 parliamentary term, a European Parliament Constituency Committee was established and reported with revised recommendations on European Parliament constituencies on 24 September 2018.
On 13 December 2017, the then Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform established two Local Electoral Area Boundary Committees to review local electoral areas across all 31 local authorities. The two Committees reported with recommendations on 13 June 2018.
The expenditure incurred by my Department in respect of the reviews undertaken in 2017 and 2018 is set out in the table below.
