Ceist:

61. Deputy Darren O'Rourke asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration if he has had any engagement with the Department of Housing; Local Government and Heritage or Meath County Council with a view to transferring a property in County Meath (details supplied) to the local authority or an approved housing body so it can be used for social housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In line with the Programme for Government 2025 the State is working to develop more State-owned international protection accommodation and reduce reliance on commercially contracted accommodation.

37 in-community properties were purchased by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth for the accommodation of more vulnerable applicants, for whom group accommodation would not be suitable. The property in the details provided is in this group and is currently being refurbished.

Three of these properties are currently under review for alternative uses outside of international protection accommodation.

I can confirm that the property listed by the Deputy has been the subject of local community engagement.

The property is not being considered for use by the Department of Housing: Local Government and Heritage or Meath County Council.
