333. Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Education and Youth the number of small rural schools in each county over each of the past twenty years; the annual enrolment in each school in the same time period; and the total maximum allocation for enrolment of each, in tabular form. [50882/26]

The data provided is for mainstream pupil enrolments and the number of mainstream classes for rural schools with a mainstream classroom count of four or less for academic years 2006 to 2025. Data were collated from the relevant class tables for each year which can be found at the link below. The Department uses the latest CSO Census definition for urban and rural areas as constituted in the most recent census, this may not match the historic characteristics of areas where schools have closed.
