Ireland stands in full solidarity with the people of Ukraine and has contributed extensive political, humanitarian, non-lethal military, and economic support to Ukraine since February 2022.

I was pleased to welcome President Zelenskyy to Ireland last week to mark the start of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The President’s visit for this occasion was a clear sign of our support for Ukraine.

As part of that support, Ireland supports strong EU sanctions against Russia. Sanctions are a matter decided on collectively at EU level. In reaching decisions on possible measures, the Commission and Member States take all factors into account - and it is right that they do. That includes the impact of any decisions on the intended target and elsewhere, including on European supply chains.

In the case mentioned by the Deputy, the Government is concerned by reports that anything exported from Ireland could end up supporting Russia’s brutal war on Ukraine. The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment is undertaking an investigation on the matter. The investigation is ongoing and we look forward to receiving its conclusions. We will discuss the results and any other relevant information with the European Commission and with EU colleagues, and we will reach any decisions required together.
