The Department of Transport has engaged with the Department of the Climate, Energy and the Environment and the Road Safety Authority in respect of technical standards required for e-scooters and electrical and battery systems. The Department of Transport specified compatible optional standards of EN 17128:2020, which cover standards for electrical and battery systems for Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEV).

Responsibility for battery standards under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 rests with the Department of the Climate, Energy and the Environment.
