I thank the Deputy for her interest in the development of Aikens Barracks and for the opportunity to discuss the progress that has been made there.

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that to date over €6m has been invested in the Barracks. Most recently, this investment has seen the opening of a new Dining Facility at the barracks, which I was delighted to officially open on the 29th April.

The Deputy may also wish to know that the following capital projects have also been completed in the Barracks:

Aikens Barracks Heating Certification

Aikens Barracks, New EV Charging points/Enabling works

While the following project is in the design stage:

A full technical refurbishment of Ablution facilities and insulation works to a three-storey accommodation block in the barracks.

In order to further progress development of Defence Forces infrastructure more quickly and to increase economies of scale, it is planned to develop a series of masterplans for each installation to future-proof for the next 20-30 years. This approach will identify from the outset the infrastructure requirements in line with capability development for each installation with an associated prioritisation of projects and a phased timeline for delivery. The future development of Aiken Bks will be subject to the final outcome of the Masterplan for 2 Brigade installations. The masterplan tender is in planning at present and will be launched in the near future.

The commitment to Aiken Barracks is indicative of the increased investment in defence infrastructure under this Government. The capital expenditure for building works in military installations and barracks across the country for the last five years was some €170 million. This year the capital allocation stands at €69.5 million for capital investment.  I am sure the Deputy will acknowledge that taken together this shows clearly the importance I place in ensuring that our facilities are modernised and fit for purposes for our Defence Forces.
