A joint major building project for Le Chéile Secondary School and Gaelscoil an Chaisleáin in Ballincollig, County Cork, is currently being delivered as part of the Departments Adapt 4 programme - Programme Innovate.

Programme Innovate will be delivered by Integrated Project Teams (IPT) consisting of highly skilled and experienced design professionals, architects, engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors and various other consultants to deliver the projects.

The proposed development is for a new 1,000 pupil post primary school including 6 classrooms for children with special educational needs, and a new 8 classroom primary school with accommodation including 2 classrooms for children with special educational needs.

This project is currently completing Stage 1 of architectural planning. The Stage1 Stakeholder meeting for this project took place in January 2026 attended by representatives from my department, the IPT's and the school authorities. A Stage 1 Addendum was requested by the department, and that addendum report, which was received in the department in April 2026, is currently being reviewed by department officials. It is anticipated that the Department will be in a position to advise the schools regarding project progression and next steps in the coming weeks. The IPT's will be requested to provide an updated project programme at that time.
