The Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) is funded by my Department through the Climate Action Fund. Across two strands, it supports and empowers communities, in partnership with their Local Authorities, to shape and build low carbon, sustainable communities and contribute to our national climate and energy targets.
Strand 1 of CCAP is providing €56.1 million in funding across two phases to Local Authorities to enable community groups to run projects across five themes: Community Energy, Travel, Food and Waste, Shopping & Recycling, and Local Climate and Environmental Action. The initial phase, funding 650 projects, is due to complete before the end of 2027. Other projects focusing on Climate education and capacity building are funded under Strand 2 of CCAP and the Creative Climate Fund.
In May this year, I announced the second phase of Strand 1 of CCAP valued at €29.5 million. In addition to this funding, I subsequently provided an additional €2.6 million which will enable local authorities fund projects from their reserve lists over the coming months. This combined funding will see a further 820 community projects progressing.
The potential for further rounds of funding under this programme are kept under active review, no further announcements are planned at this time and any future calls will be well signalled in advance.
