Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) is a statutory body established under the Inland Fisheries Act 2010, with responsibility for the protection, management and conservation of the State’s inland fishery resource. Section 59 of the 2010 Act provides IFI, for the purpose of improving a fishery, with specific powers to take fish from a fishery and to implement measures intended to alter or regulate the stock in a fishery of one or more species.

As such activities are undertaken by IFI in the exercise of its statutory powers under section 59 of the 2010 Act, no separate authorisation under section 14 of the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act 1959 is required.
