56. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment to provide details on the process to renew an employment permit for person (details supplied). [69135/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraIreland operates a managed employment permits system designed to maximise the benefits of economic migration while minimising disruption to the domestic labour market. Applications for employment permits can be made through the Employment Permits online portal.
In the case referred to by the Deputy, it is understood that difficulties arose when an incorrect application type was selected during the online employment permit renewal process.
Following contact with both the permit holder and employer, the matter was clarified and the individual was then able to submit the correct renewal application which is currently under consideration. A decision will issue in due course.
Applicants who have submitted a valid application to renew an existing employment permit may continue to work while that application is being processed, including where the current permit has expired. This provision is intended to ensure continuity for both employees and employers.
To further support applicants and reduce the need for individual status queries, my Department has introduced a Self Service Portal, which allows both employers and applicants to check the real time status of their applications.
In addition, a dedicated mailbox is available to Oireachtas members for employment permit related queries at tdepqueries@enterprise.gov.ie.
