Ceisteanna (117)

Ken O'Flynn

Ceist:

117. Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance the estimated annual contribution by Ireland to the EU budget under the European Commission's proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028 to 2034, compared with the annual contribution under the current framework, in tabular form; his Department's estimate of the contribution should the proposal be reduced by several hundred billion euros; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, negotiations are ongoing at EU-level on the Commission’s proposal for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), which will cover the years 2028 to 2034.

Ireland assumed its role as Presidency of the Council of the European Union earlier this year. As Presidency, we are committed to progressing negotiations on the next MFF and will continue to engage with Member States as we work towards our shared goal of reaching an agreement by the end of the year.

Ireland’s EU budget contributions for the years 2028-34 will depend on the outcome of these negotiations: namely, the volume of the agreed budget for the years in question, and any changes to the EU budget’s revenue system, or own resources. These matters remain under intense discussion at EU level.
