275. Deputy John Paul O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Youth the number of children that applied for the school transport scheme once the portal re-opened in July 2026. [70522/26]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe School Transport Scheme is a significant operation managed by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth.
The purpose of the Department's School Transport Scheme is, having regard to available resources, to support the transport to and from school of children who reside remote from their nearest school. Applications received after the deadline date are late applications and are not guaranteed a seat on school transport services as many are operating at capacity. TAMs relate to Temporary Alleviation Measures and are not eligible for school transport as they are attending their second nearest school.
The information requested by the Deputy has been provided by Bus Eireann and is set out in the attachment.
