I propose to take Questions Nos. 595 and 664 together.

For a product to be considered for addition to the Reimbursement List, the company must submit a pricing and reimbursement application to the HSE under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013. To date, an application has not been made for Omnipod® 5 by the company to the HSE.

Clinical and cost-effectiveness assessments are carried out after a company submits a pricing and reimbursement application to the HSE. As such no such assessment has been carried out.

The HSE has advised that the company has not yet launched the product to the Irish market. Omnipod® 5 is being rolled out world-wide on a phased basis due to constraints in manufacturing capacity versus demand and the company informed the HSE that they do not yet have a timeline for launch in Ireland.

On the 21st of May, The Diabetes Policy and Services Review: A Strategy for Better Care was launched by the Minister for Health.

This is Ireland’s first national strategy for diabetes. It sets out recommendations for action in relation to type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy and paediatric diabetes. The strategy marks a major milestone in diabetes care in Ireland, representing the development of a unified approach to the delivery of diabetes care.
