Getting connected

ICT can only arrange standalone broadband installation. If broadband is unavailable at the location, the ICT unit will be unable to connect the office to the Oireachtas network. IT equipment can still be installed but it will not be possible to connect to the Oireachtas network.

The ICT unit is currently in contract for the provision of broadband with Eir. The ICT unit arranges provision of broadband to facilitate a network connection from one remote site only. A secure connection to the Oireachtas network is configured using Eir broadband facilities.

Members do not incur charges for this service. The ICT unit will make the necessary arrangements regarding payment for the installation, including the ongoing broadband rental charges.

Members who wish to have a connection to the Oireachtas network from their home or constituency offices should apply in writing to the ICT unit.

Equipment

A TD is entitled to three suites of equipment and a Senator is entitled to two suites of equipment.

A suite of computer equipment comprises:

• PC or laptop
• Managed print service device for printing, scanning and copying. Access to a managed print service device is provided for party staff who are not attributed to a Member.
• Oireachtas email account
• Internet access

Each Member is also entitled to one tablet device.

Software

Each PC and laptop is encrypted and includes the following standard software as standard:

• Windows 10
• Microsoft Office 365
• Microsoft Outlook
• Microsoft Teams for communication and collaboration
• Antivirus

Each Member may choose to locate the equipment either in the Oireachtas office or in a constituency office. Members who wish to have IT equipment installed in a constituency office should contact the ICT unit to make appropriate arrangements.
