Members should be aware of the dangers associated with placing software or data from unchecked sources on computers.
Such dangers include viruses, malware, spyware and copyright infringements and can have serious security implications.
The Oireachtas cybersecurity team can be contacted at cybersecurity@oireachtas.ie for any concerns or questions regarding online safety and cyber security issues.
The cybersecurity team also provide regular online training courses and newsletters giving updates on the cyber landscape. Members and their staff are strongly encouraged to avail of the training provided.
Unapproved software should not be loaded on to Oireachtas issued equipment, whether licensed or not. Some software amends critical aspects of a computer’s internal management software. This can adversely affect the computer‘s performance and anything attached, including the the Oireachtas ICT network. Such software maybe removed from Oireachtas computers without any notice.
Computers containing unapproved software may be disconnected or isolated from the Oireachtas network by the Oireachtas ICT network security systems and may need to be returned to ICT for analysis or rebuilding as appropriate. This applies to computers used within the Leinster House complex and those used at remote sites connected to the Oireachtas network.
