Deputy Paul Nicholas Gogarty asked the Minister for Transport if he is aware of the delay in driving license renewal applications for applicants that require a medical certification, and due to specific case examination, these applicants do not obtain a full year on their license as their license is unfairly backdated to the date of their medical report rather than the date of their previous license expiry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that the Road Safety Authority has statutory responsibility for the National Driver Licence Service and for the administration and issuing of driving licences.
Accordingly, I have referred this matter to the Authority for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
